Since moving downtown, I've really taken to The Local. Since it works out so well at night, I figured I'd see what the had to offer on Sunday mornings for the football games.

First of all, the menu is really innovative and eclectic. Many of their egg dishes offer cream cheese folded in which adds to the texture. Anyway, I started with their bloody mary which was quite good (although, to be honest, I have yet to encounter a BM downtown that isn't from scratch and delicious) and had the green chili scramble. The flavors in the eggs were great but it would have been great if they were a bit warmer. I also couldn't resist a side of the french toast--delicious.

To top it off, the Pats won and the Bills lost, so a good day all around.

At the periphery of the San Diego Gaslamp District, the Local is an oasis of casual atmosphere and killer deals amidst the abundance of over-priced, over-dressed downtown pickup joints. If you're just plain fed up with waiting in lines to get into the latest hot spot, then wait no more. Parking might be hard to come by, but an empty barstool is not. You'll be greeted with a friendly smile, a list of food specials, and a great selection of local brews. There are TV's wherever you turn and the noise level allows for normal conversation. The bar food is great for the price, and the entrees are decent. I had a great time, despite the rowdy ramblings of the bald headed guy sitting next to me. He's from Boston. What else would you expect?
