Whisknladle is a little gem in the beautiful town of La Jolla. It's ambiance is trendy yet casual. It is also a very clean restaurant. Having worked in many restaurants myself, that is very important to me.

The service is also wonderful. The first time I went in, I sat at the bar and had no idea what I wanted to drink. The bartender was super helpful in asking me what kind of drinks I normally like and helped me pick one, which of course was delicious. After choosing my drink, I ordered one of the Flatbreads. It was AMAZING. Super fresh, melt in your mouth kind of good.

I've also had the mussels as well as a few other meals there- too many to name, but none have been a disappointment.

This is a place where the servers and bartenders actually engage in conversation and get to know you instead of treating you as just another table or seat at the bar. With that kind of service and their amazing dishes, you can't go wrong!

I'm not a fan of superlatives. Usually, when people start chiming on about greatest this, or best that...it compromises their credibility. I mean how rare is it that something is the greatest of its ilk that has come into your world. And now for some hypocrisy...

On a mild-weathered afternoon at Whisknladle, I had the best corned beef sandwich that I've ever had.

Ironically, it's not a dish I would usually order. It's just that the waitress did such a good job selling it, and I guess I was a bit open to suggestions that day. Anyway, the bread was soft and fresh, but ample enough to hold the meaty payload. The corned beef itself was simply sublime. It was ultra tender and sported a strong but subtle salty flavor. Oh, and did I mention juicy?

On the side came a delicately dressed salad of baby greens and a bowl of mulligatawny soup. I'd never had mulligatawny soup before, but I seem to remember it from an episode of Seinfeld. It tasted OK, but not something I would typically pair with the greatest corned beef sandwich that was ever consumed in the history of ever. Oh, and there were also some fresh, rustic potato chips.

Service was super warm and friendly, and even though there were a few technical missteps...I didn't mind one bit.

Whisknladle's reputation as one of the top spots in the San Diego area is well deserved. Go there, post-haste, and eat the corned beef. It will change your life!
