COMMENT CARDS
We were a party of 4, and admitedly we were there looking for the restaurant which got converted to Buca. But hungry as we were, we decided to give Buca a shot anyway. A couple of us ordered from the lunch promotional menu, which broadcast about 15 special dishes, each accompanied by a soup and salad side combo. Seemed like a nice little lunch package.
When the server took our order, she didn't ask me about salad dressing or soup, so I inquired if the dish I ordered came with soup or salad. She gave me a firm no.
My parents, being children of depression-era parents, don't allow that sort of ambiguity to die. So in order to avoid literally days of disappointing commentary from my mother, I retrieved a menu and reread it. It was pretty clear about the promotion, and we asked the waitress again. She disagreed with our interpretation but reluctantly resigned to check with management. She returned moments later with the good news that we did get a salad with the lunch meals. She offered no apology for the confusion. I asked about the soup as well, and she reluctantly confirmed that it was included.
I don't have a big issue with the lack of awareness on her part. But to insist that we were wrong, and then force us to review the menu ourselves, and then return from her discussion with management and not apologize... way too stubborn for me.
The food was acceptable, and consistent with other Buca di Beppo locations I've been to. I didn't see any phlegm in my salad, so that was a relief. And my personal, lunch sized sausage pizza was tasty with a nice crispy crust. We had an appetizer of fried calamari which was not oil-logged, nor was it over cooked. It was great with their marinara sauce.
Overall, a good experience but not a destination I'd strongly recommend.
